We outfitted Christopher’s Haven with 10 laptops and gave 3 more laptops to Cancer Patients at Children’s Hospital.

Christopher’s Haven is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides housing for families who bring their child to Boston’s MassGeneral Hospital for Children and the Dana-Farber/Children’s Hospital Cancer Center for cancer treatment. Christopher’s Haven is located at One Emerson Place, adjacent to the hospital, where seven large and completely furnished apartments and a community space are available to families who travel from out of state or outside the country for daily outpatient treatments. A typical stay is 6 to 8 weeks.

Their mission is to make a tangible difference in the day-to-day lives of children and their families by creating and operating a home away from home for children being treated for cancer at MassGeneral Hospital and surrounding Boston children’s hospitals.

Recycle Computers 4 Cancer through the Scientific and Medical Coalition against Cancer has donated over 10 laptops to Childrens Hospital in the last 2 years.

Good afternoon Eric,

I am writing to inform you that we did indeed receive the laptop. Thank you so very much! RC4C has truly been a blessing during this trying time. I am so touched that you were able to provide my mother with a laptop, which allowed her to write and have some peace of mind. It is so wonderful to have an organization like RC4C that responds as immediately as you did. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Luanna Williams

Melissa Barr recently came to us and we were happy to help her.

You can read more about it on her blog ( click here )

“The process was very easy…just contact them (by mail, phone or email), have the cancer patient talk to them (mainly to find out what kind of computer you need), and about 2 weeks later your newly refurbished computer will arrive at your house!”

Dear Eric,

Please thank all in your organization who were responsible for getting a laptop to  me.  I received it day before yesterday, now I’m recovered enough after chemo to start using it.  It is hard for me to do much, and I’m excited to feel more like a part of things.  Thanks again, James Maloney

James Original Request:

I have survived two battles with Hodgkin Lymphoma, spent 11 years in remission but housebound with the side-effects of treatment, and I have recently been diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer which has spread to my brain. It is important to me to keep my mind active and to stay in touch with my family and friends, but it is increasingly more difficult to make the trip to our local library to use the computers there. Can you help with a recycled/refurbished laptop for me to use? I would be so grateful for your help. Thankyou, James

Dear Dr. Grund,

My name is Jean Mondesir. I just wanted to let you how thankful I am for the desktop computer. I have been through a lot since September 2010 when I was diagnosed with Cancer. This is the first time in 40 years of life that I have been sick. I have recently completed my 6th round of Chemotherapy.

I am now undergoing radiation on my neck to remove a dangerous tumor. During my cancer treatment it is incredibly difficult for me to leave my apartment for any reason other than a medical appointment. The residual effects of Chemo and Radiation have caused me not to have much of a voice. Before your wonderful organization offered me this computer, I really was unable to communicate with anyone on a daily basis.

Now, thanks to RC4C and my new computer, I regularly communicate with family and friends through email. This exchange of communication has really helped me stay motivated to beat this horrible disease. Without this computer it would be very difficult for me to keep in touch with the people I love. The computer has been a blessing for me during these trying times in my life.

Thank you again,

Jean Mondesir
